Maidy Bocanegra Pink Bourbon
Colombia • Washed • Roast ●○○○○
We’re pleased to welcome back another coffee from Maidy Bocanegra at Finca Los Limones in Bruselas, Huila, Colombia. For Pinnacle No.6, we’re featuring a particularly expressive Pink Bourbon, prized for its intense fruit character and jammy sweetness.
Maidy and her husband, Alberto Mendez, established Finca Los Limones in 2020, having moved to Pitalito from a background in cattle farming in Cauca. The three-hectare farm takes its name from the limes that were previously cultivated on the land, with two hectares now planted with Castillo, Pink Bourbon and Papayo.
We’ve worked with Maidy for several years through our sourcing partnership with Caravela, purchasing several outturns from her farm. With support from Caravela’s PECA agronomy programme, Maidy and her family continue to develop their farm infrastructure and processing practices, with a focus on improving both the quality and consistency of their harvests.
For this lot, selectively hand-picked cherries are rested for 24 hours before being depulped using a traditional iron depulper. The coffee then ferments in open-air tanks for 24–48 hours, before being fully washed and slowly dried. After draining under shade, the parchment spends 15–20 days drying on raised mesh beds inside a solar tent.
Pink Bourbon Cultivar
Pink Bourbon is often associated with exceptionally fruity and sweet coffees. Despite its name, genetic research has shown that it is not part of the Bourbon family, but an Ethiopian Landrace that has become established across Colombia and other Latin American coffee-producing countries. The name refers to the pink colour of the ripe coffee cherries.
We’re grateful to Maidy and her family for continuing to develop their farm and for allowing us to share another expression of their work. This is our latest release from Finca Los Limones, and another coffee we’re proud to feature through our long-term sourcing programme.
