(According to James who heads up our coffee programme)
Looking to brew delicious coffee at home without the fuss, expense or faff? James takes us through a low-effort method that delivers consistently tasty results. No expensive kit, no new obsession required.
"Whenever I host my family and friends, I'm always asked 'what's the easiest way to make a really delicious cup of coffee?' Bearing in mind they don't have the inclination to shell out hundreds of pounds for brewing equipment, nor the desire to begin a new hobby or obsession! My go-to, low-fuss method for years now has been to use the Clever Dripper for coffee brewing that allows you to multi-task, without feeling like you're taking your eye off the ball, and which yields reliably tasty results.
Why Not a Pourover or French Press?
Pourovers need a little attention, skill and a higher quality grinder to really shine. Immersion methods can often be messy to clean up; we've all bemoaned our trusty french presses from time to time when scooping out spent coffee grounds into the food caddy, or god forbid rinsed the coffee grounds down the sink in a moment of feeling lackadaisical.
Meet the Clever Dripper
Enter the Clever Dripper to your brewing arsenal! The OG steep and release method, where you combine the benefits of immersion brewing and paper filtered drip coffee. Immersion methods allow for great uniformity and control over contact time, whilst filtering coffee through a paper filter brings greater flavour clarity and cleanliness in the cup, as well as an easier clean down. With a capacity of 500mls you can brew for two very easily. Simply add your water just off the boil for light roasted coffees, dump in your coffee grounds and stir them together. After a few minutes give it another stir and when you place the brewer on your mug or jug the plug will open and the brewed coffee will drain through.
Simple, Accessible and Easy to Clean
It takes size 4 filter papers which are also readily available in the supermarkets if you're about to run out. It's dishwasher safe and easy to keep clean, in fact, there's very little we can't say in favour of the Clever Dripper.
The Shower Method to Brew
This brewing method that requires you to boil your kettle and add 400g water to the dripper, add 24g ground coffee, give it a good stir and pop the lid on. Then, go and take a nice relaxing shower. When you're clean and dry come back to the kitchen and pop the Clever Dripper onto your jug. The coffee will be really well extracted and closer to optimal drinking temperature."
